By using only glazed ceramics applied on coil built figures, the American sculptor Jamie Bates Slone creates mesmerizing multihued installations that address the fragility of the human body and spirit in the midst of a world overthrown by illness and loss.
The Projections sculpture installation is an artistic incarnation of the sculptor’s own life experience of dealing with cancer and loss of her loved ones.
“Through various ceramic material experiments, I am able to capture this color range through the casting of glazes, spraying multiple layers of saturated underglazes, and the use of foaming glazes that form a purulent discharge that oozes out of various expressions. Everything is exaggerated. Life. Cancer. Growth. It’s all a repeating and continuous cycle of being wary of the future and empathetic of the past”, stated Jamie Bates Slone on her website.
