As an artistic reflection of Weiwei’s humanitarian work on the Greek island of Lesvos, the famous Chinese contemporary artist draped the Greek columns of the imposing Berlin’s Concert House in 14,000 life vests.

The visual manifesto of Weiwei draws attention to the millions of lives changed by the ongoing wars, to the struggle for survival and the hope of starting a new and more peaceful life.

Over the past month, the artist has been reporting from Lesvos, posting on his Instagram account thousands of videos and photos of the refugees who finally reached shore after battling with the merciless sea.
